Authored by PERSOLKELLY team, PERSOLKELLY, Global
How To Make Your Employers Fall In Love With You And Keep Renewing Your Contract?
One of the most common worries as a contract staff is whether you will get a renewal of contract as your current contract is approaching to its end. Usually, if the role is not to deliver a one-time-off project, employers would need someone to continue working for them so that their workload will be manageable. And it’s always better to work with the same person, rather than training a new staff which can be quite time consuming. However, if the current contract staff does not bring any value to the hiring managers, then their heart may start to wonder whether they should consider opening the opportunity for the next potential candidate. Therefore, contract staff will need a certain skill to “capture the heart” of their employers. And here, we would like to share a tactic called FLIRT.
Focus on bringing solutions to your managers’ problem and always upskill yourself so that you can continually help them in areas they need you most.
Lend a listening ear to your managers when they are stressed. They are humans as well and they need your emotional support too.
Inform your managers if you have any challenges, so that they are aware of the roadblocks and they can plan to manage them. Don’t forget that your managers need to manage their bosses’ expectations too. If they don’t do well, you’re not going to do well either.
Respect seniority. They are there for a reason; they must be responsible for the people under them and the decision that they make. This comes with years of experience and it is not an easy task. Since they must be accountable for the team and the assigned task, it is only fair to respect the direction and decision they made.
Teamwork makes the dream work. Nothing would make a manager happier than having a team that is determined to be supportive in achieving a common goal together.
Basically, this is just a simple guide on how to build a good rapport with your current manager. You can even summarize the whole idea with this one sentence: do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Just imagine when you become a contract manager, how would you like to be treated by your subordinate? You wish that they would apply all the tips mentioned above, right? Therefore, in a same way, if you wish that your employer will keep renewing your contract, start to FLIRT (not literally).
